Showering Mason Everett Varner

Once I found out that my best friend Blair was pregnant (over Christmas) I was ecstatic! I knew immediately that I wanted to do something for her! Then we found out that she was having a BOY (yay!) and I started thinking about hosting a shower.  Blair even invited me to go register with her for a few things! We had so much fun! I ended up talking to some girl friends that are Blair's age (I knew them from OBU & they were fellow EEEs) about hosting, they agreed, and we started planning! First we had to pick a location.  Ever since we have moved into our brand new house, I have been itching to show it off!  I offered immediately! The girls all agreed that it would be a good central spot, since a few hostesses didn't live close.  I had been secretly looking at cute ideas on Pinterest for weeks and already knew what I kind of wanted to do!  Blair informed us that her nursery scheme was orange with grey chevron. They also decided on a name, Mason Everett, which I looove! Aaron and I have liked the name Everett for a while so if you see it in the future, don't think we copied! ;)

The girls and I planned and planned and it ended up being a perfect day! Everything went smoothly and everyone had a lot of fun! Pictures will suffice for the rest of this post! Mason Everett is due July 26th.

Life Lately...

Life has been so crazy lately!  With my first year of nursing school in the books, I thought I would get to focus on this blog and start writing again! BUT after about 2 weeks off and the house being cleaned until I couldn't find anything else to do (and nothing really exciting to blog about), I decided to offer my services to a therapeutic summer day camp that I used to help with a few years ago while in college.  I started this Tuesday and have fallen asleep on the couch for the past 3 nights! I feel terrible about it because I should be spending quality time with my husband and I am worn out! :\  Don't get me wrong, I LOVE working with special needs kids/adults, but some days are draining! I will work this camp for the next 5 weeks just Tu-Th and the occasional M & F when/if they need me.  I actually start school on July 10th, which I'm totally excited about! I finally get to start some actual nursing classes, so I am PUMPED! It's going to be so hard, but I'm keeping the finish line in sight!  It's going to be a fun summer!

                                                            Speaking of summer....

Y'all. We have hit the triple digits.  Well...I don't know if the actual temp has been over 100 degrees but the heat indices most definitely have.  I got in the car yesterday and the temp said 109 degrees! AY CURRUMBA! The Arkansas humidity is a killer. I went out with pretty waves today and came back looking like I hadn't even run a brush through it...which for me = a nasty mess because I have THICK hair.  Okay, okay, enough about the weather.

Father's Day is this Sunday so tomorrow we are going to Searcy to see my in-laws. They are all hardly ever together so it is difficult trying to make plans to go visit.  I don't really ENJOY going to Searcy just because I grew up there and there is literally fun nothing to do.  I try to make the most of my trip though! Besides seeing Aaron's family, I like to run by a favorite local coffee place and also by the jewelry store (where Aaron bough my rings) to get my rings cleaned! Clark also leaves for Kanakuk & MI-7 for two whole weeks on Saturday so sometime tomorrow morning we will run over and say bye before we leave town for the day! Sunday will probably be spent at church and spending some time with my family.  We usually try to do dinner with my family once on the weekend!

We are going to be so busy this summer with wedding festivities.  My cousin Amy is getting married in July, my brother & his girlfriend just got engaged, and I am in a wedding for my other friend Amy B. in September!  Also we are going to be busy with BABIES...juuuust not our own! :)  Two of my best friends on the planet are going to have babies this year! My friend Blair is due at the end of July and my friend Amy F. is due in December! I'm excited and praying for happy, healthy babies!  I have already hosted a baby shower for Blair at our house and can't wait to plan one for Amy F.!

We are having dinner with some friends tonight in Little Rock so I'm signing off for now!

Our House

Well...we finally bit the bullet.
We have purchased our first house.
FINALLY a place that is OURS. <3

We tossed around the idea of a house for a long time, months actually. When we moved to Bryant (remember, into the house that my parents' had just moved out of) we hit it hard, searching for an apartment, townhouse, or house because we just knew my parents' house was going to sell quickly.

Cut to about two months ago, right around Thanksgiving. My parents told me that they finally got an offer on their house! Bittersweet news. Great for my parents, not so great for us. You see, we had gotten kind of lazy with our housing search. I mean we occasionally would email each other links to various places, but nothing serious ever really developed.

My dad informs me that the buyers would like to move in at the beginning of January. Well once we got THAT news, we were kind of in a panic. We had a little over a month to find AND buy/rent a place to live.  First Aaron says he is very serious about us buying our first house, which gets me all excited. So I go into a frenzy looking at different houses online in Little Rock, NLR, Benton, Bryant, & even Conway.

The weeks slip away and we are getting to early/mid-Decemeber and are trying to figure out our travel places plus our living arrangement.  Aaron says "Maybe we should just stick to an apartment for now, because I don't think there is way for us to find a house and close in the time we have to move out of the Bryant House (which is what we called it)."

(insert tears) :(

I was so crushed. I had all these ideas and dreams of our first house together! CRUSHED.

*Side note: I tend to get way to emotionally invested in some things! ;)*

But then I thought about how I knew God had a plan through all of this and so I would just keep praying and it would work out.

So a few weeks before Christmas and I am in Conway at Target with my mom looking through all of the Christmas stuff and daydreaming about all the Christmas tree themes we would like to do in the future, and I see my friend Rachel.  Rachel was my pledge sister at OBU, my "twin" in my EEE family, and who had also just bought a house in Conway.  She was there with her mom trying to find Christmas decor for her new house! I tell her about our housing dilemma and she earnestly recommends that we check out her neighborhood. It's new, it's in a smaller area that can't really be over-developed, and she loves it! So later that night I mention it to Aaron over dinner. He agrees that at the very least it would be worth checking out.  So we decide to drive to Conway that night and drive around the neighborhood. He keeps talking about how he really likes the area and it doesn't seem to "ghetto" or "redneck" -which are pluses to me!- and we go and talk to my parents about it.

Basically the next part happened in a blur.  We end up looking at 3 houses in Conway over the following weekend, narrow it down to 2 and then try to figure out our finances/pray about it to see if it's what we should do.  While all of this is going on, House #1 gets put "under contract" aka someone has put in an offer. I was so sad. I had already planned out furniture arrangements and how our backyard was going to look....sad sad sad.

The realtor we worked with kept in contact and over the holidays we ended up looking at 3 more houses, 1 from the previous trip. The first go-around, it was just Aaron and I, and the second time we asked both sets of parents to come along. The first house we had seen before and thought it was very cute, but we weren't sold yet, and the 2 other houses were still under construction. One house didn't even have most of the interior work done yet! The last house, although it was a different floor plan that the others we had looked at, we walked in and immediately loved the open floor plan. It hadn't been cleaned and there were no blinds, carpet, etc inside yet, but I could already see how I wanted it to look.  We thanked the realtor for her time and the whole way home we discussed our plans. We both agreed that the last house of the day was the one we liked the best.

So, we worked out of finances and got a loan from the bank. We put an offer down on the house and once we filled out a giant stack of paperwork and signed our lives away, we worked out a deal so that we could move in early! Despite the daily fee until we close, we are so happy! ;) So I am writing while sitting on the couch in my cute little living room :) I love this little house and I am so proud that it is OURS. I've already been calling it The Nicholson Nest, so I'm thinking that name will probably stick!

merry christmas to us!

so happy!

Slumber Party with Joshua

My mom is driving Joshua back and forth between Conway and Little Rock three times a week (what a champ)!

We offered to let him stay the night with us 1) because he's Joshua & there's never a dull moment, 2) because it was convenient for my parents, 3) I'm not working right now so I loved having the company!

Also because we just love Joshua and thought it would be fun :)

Tuesday afternoon I drove to LR to pick up Fred.
*Incase you didn't know, Joshua = Fred, Ferdinand, and basically any names similar to that, don't ask me why.*

We drove back to Bryant and stopped off at WalMart to pick up cookie dough because I thought it sounded good and Joshua agreed. :)

We went home and watched ESPN (guest choice) while the cookies baked.
He was TICKLED TO DEATH when I offered him a Cherry 7up and let him eat his cookies on the couch in the living room....it was so funny!

After Aaron got home, we decided to let Joshua pick where he wanted to go out to eat. Eventually it came down to Chili's and a local mexican restaurant that I was crossing my fingers for. Joshua picked Chili's. Of course. ;)

After Chili's we decided to go back to the house and make a fire in the fire pit.  We made s'mores and did Joshua's favorite activity, we TALKED.
We talked about life and love and memories...
if you know Joshua, a visit with him isn't complete until you take a trip down memory lane. Ha!

The next morning, I woke up Joshua and after Aaron left for work, we went to Chick to have a brother-sister breakfast date. On the way there, I asked Joshua if he slept okay and he said "Yes, but the bedding is a little too girly for me..."
law..

I'm converting him to coffee slowly.

Speaking of this coffee picture...on the way to take him to Therapeutic, he kept yawning and I asked him why he was so tired. He said he didn't go to sleep until late (no telling why) and so he was just a little sleepy. He then proceeded to reach down, grab my coffee out of the cup holder and take a big swig.

Joshua is NOT a coffee drinker so it was hilarious to see him voluntarily drink it.

That afternoon, I went to pick him up and we met my dad at our house so that he could take Joshua back to Conway.

Joshua said he had the most fun staying with us that he has ever had in his entire life.

He also said that next time he comes to visit, we should probably get a real refrigerator.
Side note- we have been using a dorm-size refrigerator since the move because we haven't been able to purchase one yet because we haven't found one we like and also it has to make financial sense.

But Joshua doesn't realize things like this, which resulted in him saying that...
just so Joshua.
;)
